Pants share the shirt's canvas size and almost nothing else. The same 585 by 559 PNG is divided into a different net: each leg gets its own column of rectangles for front, back, inner and outer surfaces, with caps for the waistband and the foot opening.

The result is that a design which works as a shirt is nonsense as pants, and the most common failure is not a wrong size at all — it is a stripe that runs horizontally on the canvas and therefore wraps around the leg instead of down it.

The pants net

Two legs, four surfaces each, plus caps. Orientation matters as much as position: a leg panel runs vertically, so artwork intended to run down the leg has to be vertical on the canvas.

Matching the seam at the waist

The waistband is where pants meet a shirt on the avatar, and the two are separate uploads. If the shirt has a hem colour and the pants have a waistband colour, they meet at a hard edge that is visible from every angle.

Design the two together, sample the exact colour from one into the other, and export both at the same time so the pair stays consistent. Checking them as a set before uploading is cheaper than discovering the mismatch on a character.

Why stripes and patterns go sideways

A leg panel is a tall rectangle on the canvas that wraps down the leg. A horizontal band drawn across the whole canvas therefore appears as a ring around both legs at the same height — sometimes what you wanted, usually not.

To run a stripe down the leg, draw it vertically within each leg's own panel, mirrored between the two columns so the pattern continues around the character rather than reversing at the seam.

PNG, transparency and the fit mode

Export PNG. Transparent areas on a clothing template show the skin below, which is how shorts, cuffs and cut-outs work at all; a JPEG has no alpha channel and fills them with solid colour.

Use Fit whole image so nothing at a panel edge is trimmed. A template that has been cropped by a few pixels in an editor is the other common source of misaligned seams, and fitting rather than filling avoids introducing that here.

How do I make the waistband match my shirt?

Design them as a pair and sample the colour from one into the other rather than matching by eye. The shirt hem and the pants waistband meet at a hard seam on the avatar, visible from every angle, and a small hue difference is obvious there.

Can pants have transparent sections?

Yes — that is how shorts and cut-outs are made. Leave the area clear in the PNG and the avatar's skin shows through. This is also why the export must be PNG: JPEG discards the alpha channel and fills every clear pixel with a solid colour.

Is my template sent anywhere when I resize it here?

No. The fit, the resize and the PNG encode all happen in this browser tab and no file is transmitted. Since Roblox charges for each upload attempt, confirming the canvas and the transparency locally first is simply cheaper.
