Roblox Game Icon 512×512

A Roblox experience icon is a 512 by 512 pixel square, displayed as a rounded tile in the discovery grid. Crop to it here with the corner rounding drawn over the preview, so nothing important sits in a corner the platform is about to remove.

Roblox Game Icon 512×512 explained

An experience icon is the square tile that represents your game everywhere on Roblox: in search, in the recommendation rails, on your own experience page. It is 512 by 512, and Roblox renders it with rounded corners inside a grid of other people's tiles.

That grid is the real design constraint. On a phone a tile is rendered at a small fraction of 512 pixels, surrounded by a dozen others competing for the same glance. What survives is a strong silhouette and a distinctive colour; a detailed scene becomes a brown rectangle.

This page crops to the exact square with the corner rounding drawn on, so a logo tucked into a corner is not discovered to be clipped after publishing. Everything runs in your browser.

Badges awarded inside an experience are a different size and a circular mask — the badge resizer handles those.

For a square crop at a size of your own choosing, the Crop Image tool takes any rectangle.

Roblox image sizes, side by side

The icon is one of several images an experience uses, and they are not interchangeable.

Designing for the discovery grid

Three things distinguish an icon that gets clicked from one that does not, and none of them is detail.

Colour first: pick something the surrounding tiles are not. A grid dominated by dark blue and grey makes a single warm tile jump out. Shape second: one clear silhouette that reads at a fraction of the size. Text last, and only two or three words — a title crammed into a tile is unreadable at the size it is shown.

  • One focal element, centred, with margin — corners are rounded away.
  • Colour chosen against the rails it will sit in, not in isolation.
  • At most two or three words, sized to read at thumbnail scale.
  • No thin outlines: they disappear entirely when the tile is small.

Why the corners matter

Roblox applies a rounded mask to the tile. The amount varies with the surface, so the safe assumption is generous: keep anything meaningful away from all four corners and treat them as decoration.

The preview draws a mask so the loss is visible while you crop. A logo placed flush to a corner is the single most common thing this catches.

Format and what upload does to it

PNG for flat, illustrative icons with hard edges. JPEG for a rendered or photographic icon, where it is considerably smaller at the same visible quality. Roblox re-encodes uploads for delivery in several sizes, so hand it a clean 512-pixel source and let it derive the small ones — supplying a pre-shrunk image only gives its resampler less to work with.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Roblox game icon?

512 by 512 pixels, square. Roblox displays it as a rounded tile and derives the smaller sizes used in search and recommendation rails from that one file, so exporting at 512 gives its resampler good material for every size it needs.

Why does my icon look cluttered in search?

Because a tile in the discovery grid is rendered at a small fraction of 512 pixels beside a dozen competitors. Detail that reads on your monitor vanishes there. One centred element, a distinctive colour and at most three words is what survives the grid.

Are the corners of a Roblox icon cut off?

They are rounded rather than cut, and the amount varies by where the tile appears. Treat all four corners as decoration and keep logos, text and any part of the subject away from them. The preview draws a mask so you can see the loss while cropping.

Should the game title go on the icon?

A short version of it, at most. The name already appears as a caption under the tile, so repeating it in full wastes the only space you have. Two or three words at a size that reads at thumbnail scale works; a full title in small type does not.

PNG or JPEG for an experience icon?

PNG for flat illustration with hard edges and lettering, where JPEG's ringing shows. JPEG for a rendered scene or a photograph, where it is much smaller with no visible difference. Roblox re-encodes either way, so the choice is about what its encoder receives.

Does this page send my icon to Roblox?

No. It has no connection to Roblox and no server of its own; the crop and the export happen in your browser and the file stays on your machine. You upload it through the Roblox creator dashboard yourself afterwards.
