What actually works in the strip

Designs that suit 7.5:1 are the ones built for it rather than cropped into it. A repeating pattern reads well because it has no single subject to cut through. A wordmark centred with generous space around it reads well because the strip is exactly the shape of a line of type.

A flat-lay photographed specifically wide — objects laid in a row rather than a cluster — also survives. A portrait of a person or a single product shot almost never does.

Choosing the band rather than accepting it

The focal grid moves the crop up and down the source image. For a flat-lay that means choosing the row of objects; for a photograph with a horizon it means deciding whether the sky or the ground carries the strip.

The zoom control tightens the crop when the subject is small in the frame. Both are more useful here than on any other banner size, because at 7.5:1 the difference between a good and a useless crop is a few per cent of the source height.
